A day in the love story of Karen and Sam

Another stunning wedding from our good friends at Patina. They never cease to create heartfelt and truely emotive imagery. Both moving and still!
We talk to Karen, get a little background on their story and wedding day. SO time to take a wee break from whatever you are doing, grab a cuppa and be inspired by this story of love, complete with surprise Irish dancers!

What did you always envisage for your wedding day?
We wanted a really chilled, relaxed day. A day were all of our closest friends and family are in one place & we all get to enjoy tasty food, relish wine & plenty of laughs & most likely a few tears. We wanted to make the most of all of that.

What could be more relaxing than a dip in the pool on a hot day, before your wedding - Pool courtesy of Lismore. :)

How and where did you meet? When did you fall for each other?
Your classic workplace romance, Sam & I would get the same bus home together. Having the chats & laughs every evening. A friendship was formed first before we got together & the rest is history.

Who proposed, where and how?
It was April 2018 in Dublin. It was the last day of our first trip to Dublin with Lachy. Sam woke me up really early & said let’s go watch the sunrise for our last day! Initially I thought is he having a laugh it’s 5am, but we got to Howth beach in Dublin just in time to see the sun come up & Sam popped the question. The ring has a lot of sentiment behind it. The ring was from his grandmothers ring & the surrounding diamonds are from his late mother’s ring. It was a lovely moment that we will always cherish (even if the ring was cutting off the circulation to my finger).

Did you have any special features at your wedding (sentimental, funny, or otherwise).
My dad couldn’t make it to NZ because of sudden health issues, I was devastated with the thought of him not walking me down the aisle. However the perfect replacement was having our three year old son walk me down the aisle & even though there was a minor freak out the closer he got to Sam it was a really beautiful moment.
Two of my bridesmaids came over from Dublin, having them by my side meant the world to me from getting ready at Lismore house to helping me search for the car keys I misplaced to all the laughs we had.

What was your favourite part of the day, what will you always remember?
Hard to choose but definitely one of the standouts of the day would have to be the surprise Irish dancers, I was holding in the tears for most of the day but as soon as I saw them come out I burst into tears. It was awesome for our guests to experience Irish dancing up close.
