Our 2021 Trend Predictions

This year has put a huge emphasis on comfort, enjoyment and focusing on the things that matter. We’ve moved away from cinematic, picture-perfect, elaborate setups, to intimate, cosy, relaxed wedding days prioritising quality time with family and friends, as well as good food and drink. After all - what beats a day in the sun, with good company?

We’re diving into our own predictions for the summer wedding season ahead.

MORE INTIMATE WEDDINGS

Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions in place at the moment, it’s tricky to arrange overseas family to attend your big day. We think this will mean shorter guest lists, and a focus on our nearest and dearest. This is reflected in smaller venue choices, more homely setups, and different wedding day schedules that allow plenty of time for socialising.

STAYING CONNECTED

To combat those travel restrictions, we think we’ll be seeing plenty more live streaming startups at weddings to help those who can’t make it feel more involved. Not only is this hugely important for those trapped overseas, but it also makes those who might not have been able to make it due to health or transport reasons feel like they’re still involved in the day. The last few years have been focussed on the “unplugged” wedding, and while we’re still seeing guests being asked to pop their phones away, there’s now a real emphasis on staying connected (enter Spaceship Streaming).

WARM, COMFORTABLE STYLING

Think rattan, wicker, and linen - cosy textures that give a real sense of warmth. That kind of nostalgic atmosphere, that reminds you of your grandparents’ house in the 90s. We’re similarly seeing this a lot in home styling - people are drawn towards those familiar, lovely textures and tones. Tying into this, we’re thinking that homely vibe will be mirrored in the lighting choices - moody, romantic, candles and fairy lights. Brought all together by minimalist backdrops and simplistic florals. Big yes.

EARLIER CEREMONIES

With a smaller group, sometimes an earlier wedding is the way to go! If you’re feeling like breaking away from the traditional 3pm ceremony, why not opt instead for a 10am ceremony, and celebrate over lunch and drinks in the sun? You could end the day perfectly with some dreamy sunset shots in the golden light.

NEUTRAL COLOUR PALETTES

That comforting atmosphere just keeps going, with our prediction for colour palettes being warm, neutral and inviting. Beiges, browns, whites, perhaps a pop of soft green or dusty rose. Or the forever-romantic pastel colour palette is a timeless choice, with powdery blues being a popular choice this summer. We’re also seeing elements of burnt orange, pairing with plenty of natural textures, floral arrangements and other botanical elements. We think the colours of this wedding season are going to be simple, modern and minimalistic.

FAMILY STYLE FOOD

We’ve realised this year that there is really nothing better than sitting around a table, with all your nearest and dearest, sharing a delicious, comforting meal and a drink or two. We’re thinking an emphasis on family style sharing will be key, to bring people together (rather than the queue for the buffet or the individual dishes).

As we draw towards the end of 2020, quality time spent with good company has become the key, and we think that the weddings that 2021 brings will be jam-packed with love, laughter and all those things that really matter. So here’s to you, 2021 - we can’t wait to see what you bring.
